Following Youtuber Ranveer Allahbadia‘s controversial remarks on Samay Raina’s show, India’s Got Latent, an old interview of BK Shivani with him has resurfaced on social media. In the now-viral video, the motivational speaker and spiritual mentor, who appeared on his podcast in August 2024, categorically emphasises the need to create mindful content, especially in today’s world.

“Content has a big role to play in our health. This is why I told you to be careful. It is not just a podcast. We really need to take responsibility. It is like food. The food you make and serve is going to affect the health of the person. So, you will serve healthy food, right?” Shivani responded when asked about her views on content in today’s age.

Stressing that while positive and mindful content can change people’s perspectives and lives, the opposite can also have an impact, she added: “Be cautious as to not do the opposite. Don’t do any such work. You feel why children of today are becoming like this…Don’t give them such content. If I say something after which someone’s state of mind goes down, it goes into my Karmic account.”

Speaking about her TV show, Awakening, which aired in 2007, she shared that the 25-minute show helped many viewers connect with their existing situations and overcome challenges through positivity. “Media has such a profound impact on the human mind. Now, in the era of social media, I have realized that if 25 minutes of positive content can stop your divorce, hours and hours of negative content can do the opposite – it can get you divorced. It can even take you into depression. I am 100 per cent convinced of it because I have seen thousands of people who have come out of their problems with positive thinking, but we don’t realise that mindless content can take us deeper into problems that were not even there in the first place,” expressed Shivani.

While acknowledging that it is difficult to curb such content, Shivani said the onus now lies on the viewers and listeners.

“We cannot stop the makers. So, at least the listeners and the audience should take care. The makers say that negative content grabs more TRP. So, it has now become the audience’s responsibility. The audience needs to take care that if you consume negative content, you are not only consuming but also inspiring the creator to create more such content. This is a vicious cycle,” said Shivani.

According to her, if one “consumes greed, lust, ego, fear, violence, comparison, criticism, ridiculing people, then we become so.” “Whatever we read, hear, see, we become. Restriction is the key now,” said Shivani.

Taking a cue from the exchange, let’s understand the impact of mindful content.

One reckless statement, one irresponsible narrative, one misinformed piece of advice, or even a reaction or expression, sometimes in sensitive cases and situations, can break spirits, reinforce toxic mindsets, and lead people down a path of self-doubt or even self-destruction.

In contrast, mindful content—grounded in truth, awareness, and responsibility—can uplift, heal, and create a ripple effect of positive transformation.

Delnna Rrajesh, psychotherapist, healer, and transformational coach, concurred and said, “In contrast, mindful content—grounded in truth, awareness, and responsibility—has the power to uplift, heal, and create a ripple effect of positive transformation. ”

To every content creator, influencer, and thought leader, Rrajesh shared five fundamental principles to integrate into your work:

Intent before impact: Before publishing any content, ask: What is my intent? If it’s just to grab attention, it’s time to rethink. Content should serve, not sensationalize.
Truth Over trend: Virality is fleeting, but integrity is permanent. Spreading half-truths or glorifying harmful ideologies for engagement erodes credibility and trust.
Empathy as a filter: Words can heal or harm. Before making a bold statement, consider how it affects people from diverse backgrounds, mental states, and life experiences.
Education before entertainment: Entertainment is powerful, but when it comes at the cost of misinformation or ethical compromise, it does more harm than good. Always balance engagement with education.
Accountability is key: Mistakes happen. But owning up to them, learning from them, and making amends separates a responsible content creator from a careless one.
