Mira Kapoor is extremely particular about her lifestyle and takes out time to dedicate enough to her health. As such, being fond of Ayurveda and its multitude of wellness aspects, Mira, recently took to her Instagram Stories to apprise her fans and followers that she is all set to undertake her annual detox.
“Time for my annual detox. It is an ayurvedic cleanse based on panchkarma but tailored to my constitution and concerns,” she said tagging the ayurvedic practitioner.
Further, Mira shared that she has been doing it once a year for six years now. “I’m so looking forward to a complete reset!”
According to Mira, monsoon is the best time for detox. “Did you know the best time to do a detox is the monsoon season?” she mentioned.
Taking a leaf out of her monsoon detox, here’s what to know about the procedure.
Dr Santosh Pandey, naturopath and acupuncturist, Rejua Energy Centre, Mumbai called annual detox as a “good idea as it may help reset and rejuvenate the body”. “Detoxification varies from person to person based on their lifestyle, dietary habits, and overall health. Detox programs should be done responsibly and with proper guidance to avoid potential risks. Before starting an annual detox, it is crucial to consult with a healthcare professional and the best time to do a detox treatment depends on individual preferences and goals,” said Dr Pandey.
He also explained that panchakarma, as an integral part of Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine from India, is a set of five therapeutic treatments aimed at detoxifying and rejuvenating the body, mind, and spirit.
Dr Pandey shared the five main procedures of panchakarma which are as follows
1) Vamana (Emesis Therapy)
2) Virechana (Purgation Therapy)
3) Basti (Enema Therapy)
4) Nasya (Nasal Administration)
5) Raktamokshana (Bloodletting)
According to Dr Pandey, some people prefer to do it during monsoon due to the “increased humidity and cooler weather”, which can be beneficial for the body during the detox process. “The body’s pores open up and it becomes more receptive to healing and the process of getting rid of toxins,” said Dr Pandey.
Elaborating, Sharmilee Kapur, co-founder and director, Atmantan Wellness Centre said that according to Ayurveda, the calendar year is made up of two solstices – the northern solstice and southern solstice. “The monsoon, which goes from mid-July to mid-September, happens to be the first season of the southern solstice. During this period (i.e., southern solstice), human strength is said to be comparatively high,” said Kapur. She added, “We also recommend Panchakarma in monsoon because the detoxification is stronger during this period, as the body naturally sweats more in a humid culture.”
Kapur mentioned that the “healing properties of Ayurveda Panchakarma and the subsequent detoxification, improved gut health, weight loss, improved joint and bone health, improved metabolism, good clarity of the senses organs, improved skin health, anti-ageing, and longevity are just a few of the many benefits in this ancient healing science”.
