What happens when you make it a part of your daily diet? Indianexpress.com reached out to a health expert to understand the health benefits associated with it, and find out whether diabetics can consume them as well.
According to Deepalakshmi, registered dietitian at The Cleft and Craniofacial Centre and Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital, Chennai, ramphal can be consumed daily and in fact doing so offers a lot of numerous benefits. It is packed with nutrients such vitamin C and Vitamin B6 and contains minerals such as potassium, magnesium and fiber.
“Vitamin C content may contribute to bolstering immune function. Dietary fiber promotes regular bowel movements and aids in maintaining digestive regularity. The presence of antioxidants may help protect cells from oxidative damage. Potassium plays a crucial role in regulating blood pressure, which is beneficial for cardiovascular health,” she explained.
Deepalakshmi shared that the glycemic index of this fruit is generally considered to be low to moderate, around 54, hence individuals with diabetes can generally consume this fruit, but in moderation. “Because this fruit has a low glycemic index, it does not cause a rapid spike in blood sugar levels. However, it is crucial for individuals with diabetes to monitor their blood sugar levels closely, especially after consuming larger portions of the fruit,” she pointed out.
Even though this fruit offers several potential health benefits, it is essential to consume it as part of a balanced diet. Excessive consumption may lead to digestive issues or nutrient imbalances.
