Parmeet Sethi, 58, recently shared a health tip with his soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Yogita Bihani, who is engaged to his elder son, Aaryamann Sethi. While enjoying a breakfast platter at a resort, Parmeet can be heard saying in one of Aaryamann’s blogs, “Life ka mazza hai. Looking at a fruit platter, you suddenly feel rich. Get into the habit of having a pomegranate. That and beetroot, just make it a part of your every day diet. Woh nahi khaaya toh yeh khaa liya. Jab bhi koi salad ho, beetroot hona chahiye (whenever there is a salad, it should contain beetroot),” Parmeet, who is often seen working out and eating healthy, told Bihani.
Is it necessary to have beetroot in your everyday diet?
Sometimes the simplest health habits are the most effective, said Dt Amreen Sheikh, chief dietitian, KIMS Hospitals, Thane. “Beetroot and pomegranate are two foods that can easily fit into your daily routine and provide significant benefits. Both are full of nutrients that support overall health. Beetroot is high in iron, folate, and natural nitrates, which help improve blood flow and maintain energy levels,” said Sheikh.
What are the key benefits?
Beetroot helps lower blood pressure, aids in producing healthy red blood cells, and can improve stamina, which is why many people drink beet juice before workouts. According to Sheikh, it also aids digestion and keeps your gut healthy. “Pomegranate supports heart health, may enhance memory and focus, and boosts your immune system. Regularly eating pomegranate is also linked to healthy skin and better hydration,” said Sheikh.
What should you keep in mind?
Sheikh said that beetroot contains natural sugar, so if you are monitoring your blood sugar levels, keep your portions moderate and pair it with fibre or protein. “Some people notice pink or red urine after eating beetroot, but this is completely harmless. With pomegranate, chewing the seeds is safe, but if you have sensitive teeth, you can drink the juice instead. Just choose fresh juice over packaged versions that contain added sugar,” said Sheikh.
Is this for everyone?
Yes, most people can enjoy these daily. Kids, adults, and seniors can all include them in their meals or snacks. “If you have kidney stones or certain health conditions, check what portion works best for you and avoid overindulging,” said Sheikh.
