How we start our day has a direct bearing on how it goes. As such, a good way to begin your mornings is to be mindfully present and take out time for your health and fitness. Fashion designer Masaba Gupta, who has been advocating for a fit lifestyle, shared snippets from a day in her life that includes a dedicated time and space for her health.
She shared a glimpse of “A day in the life of Miss Gupta” with yoga at 7 am.
She was then seen having breakfast at 8.30 am. “Tried a fried egg on a moong dal chilla with some guacamole,” she said.
Our experts were quick to point out the goodness of the combination. Dr Priyanka Rohatgi, chief clinical dietician, Apollo Hospitals, Bangalore said that the snack is rich in protein enriched with the goodness of moong and egg together. “It can be had before going for a sports activity or as an after-game power-packed snack. Accompanied with green mint chutney and some shredded vegetables makes it even better. It is a low-carb and high-protein option,” said Dr Rohatgi.
Registered dietitian Garima Goyal too agreed and said, “Eggs are one of the most popular sources of protein which is essential for your body to improve your strength and ensure muscle, and tissue repair. They provide all the essential amino acids that our body cannot synthesise and need via diet.”
Meanwhile, taking out time for work, Masaba posted an update at 8.10 pm which read, “I should just start walking everywhere. Better for my brain and heart.”
Taking a leaf out of her day, we decided to decode for you how an ideal day should be in your life in order to have a fitness-oriented lifestyle.
Light to moderate activities, such as walking and yoga, are excellent starting points, said Dr Hansaji Yogendra, director, The Yoga Institute. She listed a few pointers to keep in mind.
*Drinking a glass of water upon waking helps kickstart your metabolism and prepares your body for physical activity.
*Practicing mindful eating is vital, regardless of when you exercise. Be aware of portion sizes, eat slowly, and savour each bite. Avoid distractions like screens while eating, as it can lead to overeating and disrupt your body’s natural hunger and satiety signals.
*Whether you choose to exercise before or sometime after breakfast, try to maintain a regular schedule. Set aside dedicated time for physical activity, and gradually increase the intensity and duration of your workouts as your fitness level improves, said Dr Hansaji.
“By adopting simple lifestyle tips such as these, you can optimise your blood sugar levels, reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease, and maximise your health and vitality,” she added.
Previously too, the Masaba Masaba actor had opened up about her lifestyle choices.
“I introduced balance in my life which is the balance of all the junk food that I like and some really nourishing, nutritious food; I started working out six times a week; and lastly, I spend the first hour of my day just reading, and spending time with nature, looking out of the window, and not looking at my phone,” said Masaba.
