Shweta Tiwari, 44, recently spoke about being a hands-on mother while also ensuring that she takes time for herself and works out, even if it is “limited.” The Kasautii Zindagii Kay fame actor shared her current workout routine with comedian Bharti Singh and her husband and screenwriter Haarsh Limbachiyaa. “I go to the gym. I started Pilates two months ago. So, I do Pilates, walk, and do a little bit of weight training. I am doing limited right now, but I will be back,” Tiwari said.

She admitted that despite her attempts at yoga and meditation, she somehow always finds herself pondering over things to do.

Taking a cue from her candid admission, we consulted an expert to understand what it means to incorporate these activities into your workout routine.

A well-structured resistance training program can help manage chronic pain, improve mobility, and support overall independence, said Varun Rattan, founder of Evolve Fitness.

According to him, Pilates focuses on controlled, low-impact movements that teach the body to move more mindfully. “This type of exercise works the smaller, deep stabilising muscles as well, which are often neglected. Pilates can strengthen the core and postural muscles while being gentle on the spine and joints. This makes it ideal for those with sensitivities or past injuries,” said Rattan.

Walking, on the other hand, is one of the most accessible forms of exercise.

It requires no equipment, can be done anywhere, and costs nothing, making it easy to stay consistent in the long run. Regular walking supports heart health, improves mood, and reduces stress and anxiety. “It’s a low-impact activity that helps burn calories, contributing to weight management,” said Rattan.

Weight training is as essential as the above two, if not more so, as it helps combat age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia) and declining bone density (osteopenia). “By building lean muscle and strengthening bones, it builds functional strength, improves balance, and can reduce the risk of fall-related injuries,” said Rattan.
