Rakul Preet Singh is currently on bed rest following a severe injury. The injury occurred “after suffering a back spasm during an 80 kg deadlift”, reported ANI. The actor shared an update with her fans on Instagram, where she revealed the challenges she’s facing and emphasised the importance of listening to your body.
In her Instagram video, Rakul candidly spoke about her injury: “Hi, my lovely people. Well, here is a little health update. I did something very stupid. I did not listen to my body. I had a spasm, kept pushing it and it turned into a major injury. I have been on the bed for the last six days. I think it will take another week or say for me to fully recover. I really hope I recover faster than that because it is not easy for me to give in and rest. But, it is a lesson learnt that please listen to your body when it gives you signals. Don’t try to push. I thought that my mind was stronger than my body. It doesn’t always work like that. Thank you so much for all your wishes, especially the people who miss me. I will bounce back stronger.”
Dr Surender Pal Singh, Head of the Physiotherapy Department at CK Birla Hospital, Delhi, weighed in on the causes of workout-related back injuries, particularly during exercises like deadlifts. He explained that improper form and lack of protective gear, such as a belt, are common reasons for injuries. When performing deadlifts, the body’s angulation is critical. Incorrect posture or lifting beyond one’s capacity places immense strain on the lower back muscles, which can lead to spasms or more serious injuries.
Dr Singh also highlighted the importance of proper warm-up routines before lifting heavy weights. Without warming up, the muscles are not primed for the load, increasing the risk of strain. Moreover, using well-designed equipment and lifting within one’s limits can prevent such injuries.
