Dibyendu Bhattacharya recently lauded Hina Khan and her fighting spirit in the battle against breast cancer. “She is a fighter. Frankly speaking, I got to know later (about her health crisis). When I was working with her, I could not gauge. We used to work for 14-15 hours. We were shooting nights together. It was a hectic schedule. Now when I think in retrospect, how did she manage it without breaking a sweat? Outstanding spirit. She is a real fighter. There are very few who work like her. Hats off,” the Dev.D actor, who shared screen space with Khan on their new show Griha Laxmi, alongside Chunky Panday, said on The Sunny G Show.

Reflecting on the above statement, clinical psychologist Kamna Chhibber said that an illness can be a traumatic experience for an individual. “It can herald a grief process that can be difficult for an individual to cope with and also lead to the creation of feelings of vulnerability, insufficiency, inadequacy, safety and security in being able to manage it,” she continued.

In such situations, reassurance through acknowledgment and appreciation can go a long way. “It is a good way to encourage individuals to help them thrive,” added Chhibber.

A word of appreciation or support can help encourage one to fight hard during the overwhelming journey. “A supportive and honest person’s words play a vital role in affecting one psychologically,” said Chhibber.

It is a symbol of hope and resilience. It’s like an acknowledgment of the fact that they’re loved and supported, even in times when they might feel disconnected, the expert shared.

This also ensures that the patient is not facing their journey alone.

“Moreover, positive words can offer emotional stability in adversity. This helps them feel less judged, celebrate small victories, and be more ready to face the upheavals. This kind of motivation can help one feel safe and reassured,” said Chhibber.
