Aamir Khan has finally gone public about his relationship with Gauri Spratt after keeping it hidden for 18 months.

The actor, who introduced Gauri to the media just before his 60th birthday, revealed that his family has already met and approved of her. Speaking about how he managed to keep the relationship away from the public eye, Aamir said, “For one, she lives in Bangalore, or lived there till recently. So, I would fly down to meet her, and the media scrutiny is less there. So we stayed under the radar.”

Gauri, who isn’t deeply familiar with Aamir’s filmography, shared in the same interview what drew her to him. “I wanted someone who was kind, a gentleman, and just caring,” she said, to which Aamir jokingly replied, “And after all that, you found me?”

The couple also agreed that Gauri’s limited exposure to Bollywood helped their relationship, with Aamir adding, “She doesn’t see me as a superstar but as a partner.” As they now step into the public eye together, their relationship brings up interesting conversations about privacy and emotional connection.

Gauri Spratt, originally from Bengaluru, is the daughter of Rita Spratt, who ran a salon in the city. She studied at Blue Mountain School before pursuing FDA Styling & Photography at the University of the Arts, London, in 2004.

Starting her career in 2005, she was a partner at Marmalade until 2010. She later joined 3’C Tex Pvt Ltd as Partner, Director, and Head of Design and worked as a consulting designer and buyer at The Leather Boutique. She also co-owned a BBlunt salon in Bengaluru before relocating to Mumbai.

Aamir revealed that Gauri now works with his production house. While details about her personal life remain private, he shared that she has a six-year-old son.

So, how does maintaining privacy in a relationship impact emotional intimacy and trust between partners?

Maintaining privacy in a relationship can strengthen emotional intimacy and trust. According to psychologist Rasshi Gurnani, “When partners respect each other’s need for personal space, it creates a sense of security. This helps them feel valued and understood, which deepens their emotional bond. On the other hand, if there’s no privacy, one or both partners may feel overwhelmed or suffocated, leading to frustration and distance in the relationship.”

Relationship coach Varinder Manchanda believes that “while some level of privacy is healthy, too much secrecy can create misunderstandings and weaken trust.” The key is open communication.

Can a relationship benefit when one partner isn’t deeply familiar with the other’s public persona or professional achievements?

When one partner isn’t deeply familiar with the other’s public image or career achievements, it can actually be beneficial. Gurnani suggests that this allows them to connect on a personal level without being influenced by external perceptions. “It makes the relationship feel more genuine because the attraction is based on personality rather than fame or success. This also helps create a sense of equality in the relationship, preventing any power imbalances that might arise due to professional differences,” she says.

If one partner isn’t deeply familiar with the other’s public image or professional achievements, it can actually be a good thing. Manchanda points out that this allows the relationship to grow based on personal connection rather than external success.

Role of emotional security in a couple’s decision to go public with their relationship

Emotional security plays a big role in a couple’s decision to go public with their relationship. Gurnani explains, “When both partners feel confident and secure in their bond, they are more comfortable sharing their relationship openly. However, going public can bring new challenges, including scrutiny and external opinions, which may affect the couple’s dynamic. To handle this, it’s important to have a strong foundation built on trust and communication.”
