Long gone are the days when bridal ensembles would take the centre stage at weddings. Today, grooms are equally invested in curating a standout look for their special day. After all, you deserve to be the star of your special day.

Whether you’re planning an intimate gathering or a lavish bash, we reached out to an expert to understand how grooms-to-be can channel their inner maharaja. Ravi Gupta, designer and director of Gargee Designers sheds light on the latest wedding style trends for grooms this season.

Off-beat colour palettes

Choosing the right colour palette is extremely crucial during the wedding season. “Whether you’re aiming for a classic and elegant look, a romantic and dreamy atmosphere, or a rustic and earthy vibe, the right colours can help you achieve your desired aesthetic,” Gupta says.

The most favoured colour, according to the designer, is navy blue. “It is a sophisticated choice that suits formal and elegant affairs, providing a sense of refinement. Another variation from the same colour family is dusty blue and lavender, which offer a serene and calming vibe, perfect for beach or garden weddings.”

Apart from this, he shares that earthy tones have gained popularity for rustic and Bohemian-themed weddings, giving an organic feel. “Emerald green is an ideal option for grooms looking for a rich and regal touch.”

Gupta highlights that there has been a shift towards pastel and subtle colours in recent years, indicating a desire for a more understated look.

Wedding staples

Trendy sherwani sets with a pagdi (turban), Kamarbandh pairing, and embellished jootis, are a classic choice, as per Gupta. Teaming the kurta and churidar with Bundi or Jodhpuri sets is equally dapper, he says.

However, the most captivating aspect is the choice of fabric that can make a whole difference. “From luxurious silk blends to comfortable cotton and exquisitely woven Jacquards, these fabrics not only ensure comfort but also exude opulence,” Gupta notes.

For a timeless and classy engagement ceremony look, Gupta suggests a contemporary black tuxedo with a crisp white shirt and bow tie, while quirky printed kurtas are a trendy choice for the sangeet ceremony.

Styling tips

This wedding season, Gupta notes the resurgence of groom shawls — adding a touch of elegance to the ensemble.

In a departure from tradition, jewellery pieces are no longer confined to bridal attire. “Statement pieces like brooches and necklaces can complement a sherwani perfectly for the right touch of sophistication,” he says. Additionally, Nehru jackets, he asserts, maintain their status as an evergreen staple for groom’s wear, providing a modern flair.

As grooms step into the spotlight, these trends offer a chance for men to shine on their big day.
