Cold conditions prevailed in many parts of Himachal Pradesh,including tourist spots of Shimla and Manali,following a fresh spell of snowfall at the higher reaches of Lahual-Spiti,Kinnaur and parts Chamba district.
Heavy to moderate rainfall occurred at many places in the state,including Shimla,during the last 24 hours,bringing down maximum temperatures by 10 to 12 degrees Celsius and minimum by three to seven degrees C.
While apple growers were happy with the rains,farmers in other parts of the state,including Kangra,Mandi,Bilaspur,Una and Kullu were a worried lot as the rainfall had damaged the standing wheat crop.
The maximum temperature dropped from 40.2 degrees C to 28.2 degrees C in Una while Shimla recorded a high of 15.4 degrees C against 25.4 degrees C on Saturday. Sundernagar,Bhuntar and Dharamsala recorded a high of 19.2 degrees C,18.7 degrees C and 18.4 degrees C respectively,while Nahan and Solan recorded maximum temperatures of 27.5 degrees C and 23.5 degrees C respectively.
Dharamsala and Jubbal were the wettest areas in the state with 32 mm each,followed by Saloni 21 mm,Gaggal 19 mm,Dalhousie 18 mm,Solan 15 mm,Chamba 14 mm,Jogindernagar 11 mm,Kufri 10 mm respectively.
Shimla received 10 mm rainfall followed by Seobagh 9 mm,Sundernagar 8 mm,Bhuntar 7 m,Theog 6 mm,Mandi,Hamirpur 5 mm and Kalpa 4 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.
Local MeT office has predicted rains,thunderstorm or snow in mid and higher hills in next 24 hours. The unprecedented rain was due to Saturdays western disturbance,which persisted as an upper air system over north Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. The weather may clear out on May 14.
