Though the SAD-BJP government is still far away from implementing its ambitious “Adarsh School” project announced in its previous regime,it may now introduce “smart classes” in government schools to provide effective classroom learning for the students.

In a smart class, teachers use latest technologies like animations, pictures, audio and videos to teach students. They are also provided training for the purpose.

To find out whether the project is feasible, the government plans to run a pilot project at a school in Jalandhar district. The results of the project will decide if classes in every government schools can be converted into a “smart class”.

If successful, the government will develop e-content to be taught at the schools and upload it on the state-owned data centres for the use of educational institutions. When contacted,Director General School Education (DGSE) Ashok Kumar Singla said he has yet to see the details of the project. Earlier, the government had introduced e-classes for science and medical students through Education Satellite system.

However, till now,it has only started five new Adarsh schools out of the proposed 120.
