Black Mirror is returning with its sixth season on Netflix and once again, the Charlie Brooker anthology series appears like it will have the audience question their reality as they watch the five new stories unfold on screen. The trailer for the upcoming season was released on Thursday, and it promises to be the most “unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected” season yet.
A small description of the five stories give out just enough to intrigue the audience. Annie Murphy and Salma Hayek starrer Joan is Awful has a regular woman who finds her life turned into a TV show on a global streaming platform, where she is portrayed by Hayek. Loch Henry has a young couple traveling to a Scottish town with the intention of making a nature documentary, but instead they find themselves drawn to an old story from the town’s past. Beyond The Sea, starring Aaron Paul, is set in an alternative 1960 where men on a high-tech mission find themselves in a tragedy. Mazey Day is a commentary on the paparazzi culture. And Demon 79, set in 1979, follows a sales assistant who is being dictated to do some awful things.

After two successful seasons on UK’s Channel 4, Black Mirror became a Netflix original series. The show first started in 2011 and took the world by storm with its innovative storytelling. Netflix started streaming the show in 2016 and has had three seasons so far, and also an interactive film titled Bandersnatch.
Black Mirror’s stories have been seen as futuristic and many technological advancements in the real world are often called ‘Black Mirror events’. The show has also been compared to The Twilight Zone, in terms of its storytelling as well as its cultural impact.
Black Mirror Season 6 starts streaming on Netflix from June 15.
