Kanguva second look: Suriya’s modern-day character hints at two timelines in the story, fans compare the look with his film 24

Kanguva: Suriya's character in the second poster sports two different looks. While one is a warrior from an earlier era, the second is a modern-day man.

Director Siva Kumar’s much awaited film Kanguva was once again trending on social media as the makers released the second poster of the film starring Suriya. The Tamil period war film gave a strong insight into the story by showing Suriya in two different avatars. While the first one is that of a warrior, which audience had seen in the first poster as well, the second one is a modern-day man, dressed in a white shirt and beaded necklaces and chains.

The two different looks of the actor in this second poster hints at parallel narratives in the film, although there has been no revelation from the makers. However, the caption of the film’s production house Studio Green’s Twitter, sounded mystical. It read, “A Destiny Stronger Than Time. The past, present and future. All echo one name! #Kanguva. Here is the #KanguvaSecondLook.”

Netizens were elated to see an update on the film after November 2023, when the first poster was released. A fan wrote, “The king is here.”. Another fan wrote, “Mass. Best poster.. Yesterday it’s Vettaiyan and today #Kanguva.” One of the many excited fans, wrote, “Wowww , something magical is coming from this team. Expectations are rock high.”

Some fans also compared Suriya’s modern-day look with that of his 2016 film 24, in which he played the role of Athreya. A fan wrote, “24 movie looks”, while another wrote “24 movie (wondering emoticon). A fan wrote, “Athreya returns”.

Last week, Suriya wrapped up his shooting for Kanguva. He posted a still from the film, in which he was dressed as a warrior. The actor wrote, “My last shot done for Kanguva! An entire unit filled with positivity! It’s a finishing of one and beginning of many..! Thank you dearest @siva_director and team for all the memories! #Kanguva is huge n special can’t wait for you all to see it on screen!

Kanguva also stars Disha Patani who will be playing the female lead in the film. Kanguva marks the return of Suriya on the big screen with a solo lead after 2022 film Edharkum Thunindhavan. After that, he was seen doing cameos in Kamal Haasan’s Vikram and R Madhavan’s Rocketary: The Nambi Effect.
