After a promising opening, the Mohanlal-starrer L2: Empuraan landed in hot water due to perceived controversial scenes. Despite the uproar, the film managed to maintain a steady pace at the box office and went on to become the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. On the 13th day of its release, Empuraan set another record as it crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in India.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film raked in Rs 1.25 crore on Tuesday. The domestic collection of the film has reached Rs 101.15 crore, while the film’s worldwide collection has crossed the Rs 260 crore mark. Empuraan had an overall 15.32 percent Malayalam occupancy and 12.15 percent Tamil occupancy on Tuesday.

The film’s maximum collection has come from the Malayalam audience. It has grossed over Rs 80 crore in Kerala alone. “One of the elite few to cross 80 Cr+ in Kerala. History has a new chapter,” wrote the film’s producers about the milestone.

The film collected Rs 88.25 crore during its first week. It saw a 15 percent increase in collection over the weekend, minting Rs 3.35 crore and Rs 3.85 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The film witnessed the usual weekday drop in collections on Monday, falling by 59 percent to Rs 1.55 crore, followed by a further decline on Tuesday. It is expected to see a further drop in coming days.

Following the controversies surrounding its scenes on the Gujarat riots – which led to the makers implementing cuts in the film -Empuraan has now landed in fresh trouble. The film’s team faced Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids in different cases. The IT Department issued a notice to Empuraan producer Antony Perumbavoor, seeking clarification on alleged financial transactions related to his previously bankrolled films Lucifer and Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea. Empuraan’s other producer, Gokulam Gopalan, was also summoned by the Enforcement Directorate after Rs 1.5 crore cash was recovered from his house.
