Taylor Swift had her first detailed conversation about her upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl on boyfriend Travis Kelce’s podcast New Heights and Taylor took the opportunity to speak about the biggest easter egg from her last show of the Eras tour. She also explained how that tied to her new album, and why she chose the colour orange for this new album.
As Travis’ brother Jason asked Taylor why she did not take the elevator lift to exit the stage during her last show, and instead went out through an orange door, Taylor was quick to say that she was “pretty proud” of her fans for noticing that. “I would leave the stage every night going down the elevator lift. That’s how every single Eras show ended, except for the last one. I exited through an orange door to be specific and that actually was an easter egg. Basically the reason why I chose to exit that way was because I kind of wanted to give a little subliminal hint to the fans that I may be leaving the Eras tour era but I was also entering a new era,” she shared.
Taylor also introduced her new album ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ in this podcast as she read out the names of all 12 tracks. She also shared a glimpse of the orange and sparkly vinyl record. When asked why she chose orange, Taylor shared, “I’ve just always liked it Jason. I don’t know it feels like energetically how my life has felt and this album about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant.”
The cover of the album has Taylor in a sparkly bedazzled outfit inside a bathtub with her face above the water and she also explained the reason behind choosing this artwork. “This represents the end of my night. When I am on tour, I have the same day every single day,” she said and added, “My showdays are the same every single day, I just happen to be in a different city. And my day ends with me in a bathtub, not usually in a bedazzled dress. I wanted to sort of glamourise all the different aspects of how that tour felt and that’s how that felt to be at the end of the night. When all this has gone down and you won’t be able to get to bed until 4 am after this but you had to jump through 50 million hoops in this obstacle course that is your show and you did it. You got two more in a row, but you did it tonight.”
She shared that she particularly wanted an off-duty moment for the cover and shared, “And the reason I wanted to have an offstage moment as the main album cover is because this album isn’t about what happened to me on stage, it’s about what I was going through off stage so I didn’t want to have the ‘lights are bright and I am on the stage’ as the man album cover. This, to me, tells more of what the actual contents lyrically of the album are,” she said.
