Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning box office collection day 3: If this was, in fact, the last instalment in the beloved Mission: Impossible franchise, then one can undoubtedly say that Ethan Hunt has signed off in style. With Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning opening to mostly positive reviews, the spy actioner film series has cemented its status as one of the most successful movie franchises of all time, and is currently soaring at the box office, including in India. In fact, the movie is faring better than its prequel, Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.

What’s even more impressive is that the Tom Cruise actioner has earned more on its first Monday in theatres than recent big-ticket Indian films like Kesari Chapter 2, Retro and HIT: The Third Case did on their respective corresponding days. On Monday, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning registered an India nett collection of Rs 6.65 crore, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, taking its total domestic earnings to Rs 40.15 crore.

Although its Monday figure witnessed a 60.88 per cent dip compared to the movie’s Sunday earnings of Rs 17 crore, The Final Reckoning has managed to outperform its prequel, Dead Reckoning Part One, on the corresponding day when it minted Rs 5 crore. While Dead Reckoning opened to Rs 12.3 crore in the domestic market on a Wednesday, Final Reckoning registered a release day collection of Rs 16.5 crore on a Saturday.

At the same time, Mission: Impossible 8 has also managed to mint more money than recent Indian movies like Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2 (Rs 4.5 crore), Suriya’s Retro (Rs 3.4 crore) and Nani’s HIT: The Third Case (Rs 3.65 crore) on its first Monday since release. Nonetheless, it fell short of Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 (Rs 7.5 crore) and Mohanlal’s Thudarum (Rs 7.15 crore). According to Sacnilk, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’s worldwide gross currently stands at Rs 150 crore.

During the day, the English version of the Tom Cruise-starrer recorded an overall occupancy rate of 15.65 per cent. The morning shows began with 8.55 per cent occupancy, which improved as the day progressed, rising to 15.52 per cent in the afternoon, 17.09 per cent in the evening and peaking at 21.44 per cent during the night screenings.

In her review of the movie, SCREEN’s Shalini Langer gave Final Reckoning three out of five stars and wrote, “The film is an ode to Tom Cruise. In its numerous flashbacks to the previous M:I films, it underlines the times Ethan Hunt saved the world, and honours the people he loved and lost.”
