Noted singer and theatre personality Ila Arun says plays do not generate much craze in India as compared to the other countries.

“In India, people normally do not support theatre. It does not generate craze in India. They are not very keen on witnessing live drama performance by artistes, unlike the situation in other countries,” the popular actress said.

She was speaking to reporters here on the eve of the 26th International Literacy Festival organised by Hindi Urdu Sahitya Award Committee, during which her play “Namaste” was staged.

Arun has written the Hindi script and dialogue of the play, which focuses on the conflict between the old and new generations.

Play director K K Raina said the drama wanted to drive home the message that dialogue between two generations can bridge the divide, which is getting widened day by day.
