Shah Rukh Khan’s childhood friend Palash Sen was surprised when SRK chose films: ‘Thought he’d do something bigger’

Singer Palash Sen, who was a schoolmate of Shah Rukh Khan, spoke highly of the actor in a new interview. He said that Shah Rukh would’ve excelled at any field because he was so talented, and that it was surprising when he chose to pursue acting in Hindi films even though he had clarity about his ambitions even when he was in the 10th grade.

Shah Rukh and Palash Sen went to St Columba’s School in New Delhi, and even though they’re both the same age, Palash said that he was one year senior to Shah Rukh in school. In an interview with The Lallantop, the Euphoria frontman said, “I believe that whatever success Shah Rukh has achieved in his chosen field, he would have achieved in any other field as well. He’s among the most exceptionally intelligent men I’ve met in my entire life.”

Palash recalled that he used to sing for Shah Rukh in school plays, and that SRK jokingly told him back then that one day, Palash would sing for him in Hindi films. But Palash didn’t take him seriously. He said, “I really thought he would do something bigger than films. He’s an extremely intelligent man. We used to see the kind of results he got in school. He was very good at cricket, he was very good at hockey, he was good at dramatics, debating, he was a good orator. So, for someone who was good at so many things to do Hindi films was a little surprising for us. We belonged to the generation that looked down on Hindi films.”

But Palash admitted that Shah Rukh has done a great deal to legitimise film acting as a profession in India. In an earlier interview with CurlyTales, Palash said that Shah Rukh was always sure that he was going to be a huge star. And his self-belief shows. Shah Rukh remains the biggest film star to emerge out of India, and recently experienced massive success with the film Pathaan. The spy thriller has become the highest-grossing movie of his career, pushing his stardom to new heights.
