A day after her official Instagram handle and her team announced that she has died of cervical cancer, Poonam Pandey shared that she is alive. Known for her controversial statements and elaborate stunts, Poonam shared a video on Instagram and said, “I feel compelled to share something significant with you all – I am here, alive. Cervical Cancer didn’t claim me, but tragically, it has claimed the lives of thousands of women who stemmed from a lack of knowledge on how to tackle this.”
The news of actor-model Poonam Pandey’s death on her official Instagram handle left many shocked. Her manager shared a statement on Friday, explaining why they have not issued an official statement, “We received a call from her family/ team in the morning that she is no more, we are also trying to reach her family but unfortunately we haven’t been able to reach them which is why we are not releasing an official statement. As of now all we know is she is no more and her body is at the moment in UP.”
A few days before the news of her death, Poonam had shared her pictures and videos from her trip to Goa. In one of the videos, she was seen striking a pose in a white and black outfit on a ship while the security personnel escorted her.
The former Lock Upp contestant shared the video with the caption, “White & black: the yin and yang that balance my life.” She added the hashtags, “#poonampandey #fun #goa.” Poonam posted the video on Tuesday.
On Friday, a post on Poonam’s Instagram account read, “This morning is a tough one for us. Deeply saddened to inform you that we have lost our beloved Poonam to cervical cancer. Every living form that ever came in contact with her was met with pure love and kindness. In this time of grief, we would request for privacy while we remember her fondly for all that we shared.”
Later, the actor’s manager told indianexpress.com, “She died at her home in Uttar Pradesh.” However, several Instagram users were skeptical about the news. One of them commented on the post saying, “@poonampandeyreal I’ve seen you today, don’t prank.” Another wrote, “But she was seen in Mumbai only 3 days ago.”
The Indian Express could not reach out to her family for confirmation.
Poonam Pandey is primarily known for making news for being bold. She gained popularity after she promised to strip if India won the 2011 ICC men’s cricket World Cup. She was last seen in Kangana Ranaut-hosted reality show Lock Upp, where she was competing against Munawar Faruqui, Karanvir Vohra and others.
In 2020, Poonam announced her wedding to businessman Sam Bombay. However, she soon filed a domestic violence case against him, following which they separated.
