Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi starrer OMG 2 was released in theatres on August 11. OMG 2 has completed two weeks at the box office and on the third Saturday, the film minted approximately Rs 3.50 crores, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. After a decent opening with Rs 10.26 crores, the collections recorded a jump and the film minted Rs 15.30 crores and Rs 17.55 crores on day two and three. The total collection of the film now stands at Rs 131.37 crores. OMG 2 had an overall 43.97% Hindi occupancy on Saturday.
Despite facing competition from Sunny Deol starrer Gadar 2, Rajinikanth-led Jailer and Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl 2, OMG 2 kept the cash counters ringing. Helmed by Amit Rai, the film also stars Yami Gautam in the lead role.
The film has surpassed the worldwide collection of Oh My God. The 2012 movie had minted Rs 123.97 crores worldwide. Talking about the film’s sucess, Yami said in a statement, “Seeing your work being loved by so many, and receiving an outpour of praises is truly one of the most surreal feelings in the world! I am feeling beyond grateful for all the love that OMG 2 has been receiving from the audience at the box office.”
She added, “It’s my first theatrical release post the pandemic and it makes me feel ecstatic that it’s crossed 120 cr, and is running successfully for more than 2 weeks! Filled with utmost gratitude, I want to thank the audience for accepting the message we wanted to portray with OMG 2 and for making it achieve greater heights.”
The Indian Express critic Shubhra Gupta gave OMG 2 a rating of 3.5 stars and wrote that it “sneaks a timely message”. A part of the review read, “It’s been a while since I enjoyed an Akshay Kumar performance as much as this one. And I haven’t been taken by surprise as much as I was in OMG 2, in the best way possible.”
