On the occasion of National Cinema Day on Friday, films across most multiplexes in the country were priced at Rs 99 and this led to an upswing in box office collections. Akshay Kumar‘s Mission Raniganj, and Pankaj Tripathi and Varun Sharma’s Fukrey 3 showed a significant growth in their box office collection.
Mission Raniganj earned Rs 5 crore on Friday, as per industry tracker Sacnilk, which was almost twice its collection on the opening day. The film made only Rs 2.8 crore on its opening day. Mission Raniganj’s nett domestic total currently stands at Rs 23.25 crore.
On the other hand, Varun Sharma and Richa Chadha’s Fukrey 3, which has been thriving in the cinemas so far, got another lease of life thanks to the drop in ticket prices. Fukrey 3 made Rs 5.25 crore on Friday and the film’s nett domestic collection now stands at Rs 86.54 crore.
Fukrey 3 is inching towards the Rs 100 crore mark in India but it is yet to be seen if the film will manage to enter the Rs 100 crore club in the domestic market. As per Sacnilk, the film has already made Rs 109.5 crore worldwide gross. With no big releases this weekend, Fukrey 3 has another chance to impress the audience in its third weekend.
Fukrey 3 released alongside Vivek Agnihotri’s The Vaccine War which disappeared from the theatres without a trace. The film had a disappointing run at the box office which directly benefitted Fukrey 3.
