Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur and actor-singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi’s daughter Kaveri Kapur, who recently made her acting debut with Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story, has opened up about her parents’ divorce. In an interview, Kaveri mentioned that though she was happy when they parted ways, it took a toll on her mental health while growing up.
“It wasn’t the separation that affected me as much as the relationship itself. I was happy when they got divorced. But yes, it took a toll, especially because it was so public. You get exposed to things a child wouldn’t normally have to deal with. I have struggled with my mental health as an adult because of it,” Kaveri told The Times of India.
She added, “I still struggle with my mental health—it’s a process. I have OCD and I’m still healing. But I’m happy and grateful, and I know it takes time.”
Shekhar Kapur and Suchitra Krishnamoorthi got married in 1999 and they welcomed Kaveri in 2001. They parted ways after 12 years of marriage in 2007.
Kaveri Kapur will be seen next in Shekhar Kapur directorial Masoom… The New Generation. The movie also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Manoj Bajpayee and Nithya Menen in pivotal roles.
