Varun Grover, who is a director, writer and also a comedian, recently took a dig at the ongoing Samay Raina-Ranveer Allahbadia controversy. Ranveer’s joke on Samay’s show India’s Got Latent drew a lot of criticism and now, Varun has expressed his take on the matter in a comic way. Varun shared his thoughts during one of his stand-up shows where he told his audience to not record him on their phone, and then spoke about SamayRaina.

“I don’t want to go to jail because of the 6 MB video recorded on your Oppo phone. If I have to go to jail, it should at least be because of my high-quality 4K video that I have shot. This way, at least I will get some respect. If it’s a shaky video, no one will even understand who is talking because of the video quality. Even I can deny saying ‘sir, look closely. It’s Samay Raina’,” he said followed by a laugh from the audience.

Varun then started talking about Ranveer Allahbadia and his screen name Beer Biceps, and joked that someone with that name should have been stopped a long time ago. “Beer biceps. The one who has such a name, his show should have been shut a long time ago. Just on the basis of his name. What he says is secondary. Beer Biceps, what is this? Sounds like a p**nstar’s name from Gurgaon,” he joked.

Varun then joked about the investigation around India’s Got Latent and said, “Police went to that studio where they shot the episode, for a raid. Police is thinking they are still sitting there. They are sitting there, waiting, after uploading the episode. ‘No one has come yet. No one has got offended’. Now they have gone and they are asking ‘Where is Samay Raina?'”

The controversy around India’s Got Latent started after a joke made by Ranveer Allahbadia was widely shared online. Multiple FIRs were filed against the judges on the panel and soon after, YouTube India took down the objectional episode. A few days after this, Samay Raina shared a note on social media sharing that he had taken down all the episodes of his show.
