Bollywood star Alia Bhatt, who is celebrating her 30th birthday today, recently got chatty with Humans of Bombay as she tackled questions on being a multi-tasker, maintaining the work-life balance and experiencing mother’s guilt upon leaving her child for work commitments.

Alia said that being an actor, a producer, a new mother and an entrepreneur (she is the founder of children’s clothing brand Ed-A-Mamma) can be challenging, but since she had chosen all those roles herself, she does not like to complain about juggling so many things at once.

The actor said, “Yes, I have a lot of clutter in my mind and I like being on top of things. But as far as the mother thing goes, it is a new experience, and anything new can be challenging. But when I have low energy, just one look at my baby and I have 1000-watt energy. I chose to be an actor, a producer, an entrepreneur and a mother. So I can’t sit and complain and be like ‘life is very hard’. But life is tough for everyone, life is not always going to be a smooth path. You just have to keep moving, but a good night’s sleep is always the way to recuperate for me.”

When asked if she experiences any kind of guilt about leaving her child at home when she has to step away for work, the Gangubai Kathiawadi star added, “It is a very regular feeling, and you just need to tell yourself that you are doing your best. And of course, I think all the big corporations/companies should give mothers their maternity leave. It’s something that I would like to loudly say.”

The actor concluded by stating that it is also necessary for the mother to take a break for the sake of her own mental health, which in turn will help both the mother and the child in the long run, adding, “My husband, my family were there to constantly check in on me and make it seem like I was doing the best job possible.”
