
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla Thursday lauded the technological contributions of IIT Mandi to Himachal Pradesh, emphasizing its potential to bolster the apple economy and facilitate local problem-solving. The Governor’s remarks came during a G-20/S-20 conclave — Technology for Society — at IIT Mandi.
The one-day conclave provided a platform for delegates from both public and private sectors to convene and explore avenues for knowledge sharing and discussions aimed at addressing societal development through technological interventions. With India assuming the G-20 presidency, Governor Shukla stressed the nation’s pivotal role in tackling global challenges and promoting shared values, urging for the exhibition of India’s capabilities, philosophy, and intellectual prowess.
Expressing satisfaction with ongoing research endeavors, Governor highlighted the institute’s commendable efforts in developing efficient cooking stoves, offering a potential solution to the problem of inaccessibility in the state.
Furthermore, the governor praised the institute’s pioneering work in deriving biofuel from dry pine leaves, providing a sustainable energy source for industries while benefitting rural communities. He called for the significant pursuit of further development in the realm of biofuels and green fuels.
Applauding IIT Mandi’s initiatives in various fields, such as the advancements in low-cost medical devices, robotics, and AI for healthcare, Governor Shukla underscored their significant role in addressing healthcare crises in both rural and urban areas. Additionally, he emphasized the need for strengthening technologies aimed at predicting landslides and avalanches, crucial for the safety and well-being of the state’s inhabitants.
Highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship support centers in boosting the state’s economy, Governor Shukla underscored their necessity and potential for fostering innovation and economic growth. During his visit, he also took the opportunity to explore the institute’s state-of-the-art labs and centers, gaining firsthand insights into their cutting-edge research and development.
Among the distinguished attendees were Professor Laxmidhar Behera, the Director of IIT Mandi, who shed light on the institute’s focus on technology, skill development, and societal contributions. Professor Ashutosh Sharma and Dr. Janak PaltaMcgilligan also presented their perspectives during the event. The occasion was graced by the presence of MLA Puran Chand, Director of IIT Jammu Professor Manoj Gaur, Director of Punjab Engineering College Professor Baldev Sedhia, and other prominent figures from various sectors.
