With the district administration seeking help from top companies, villagers of the landslide-hit Malin may get training in skill development from industrial units.
“These companies showed interest after we sought help from them. We are talking to all non-governmental organisations working in the area and along with the company majors a proper rehabilitation programme will be worked out,” he said.
A meeting on the rehabilitation programme has been convened on Thursday. The programme will address both employment and self-employment programmes post the rehabilitation. Even as the district administration is working on building temporary and permanent tenements as part of the rehabilitation process, the administration is also looking to help the villagers with jobs, for which skill-based training would have to be imparted.
M N Sanyal, senior manager (outreach), Thermax, said they were already supporting an NGO working in the area and the schools. Besides financial help, he said, they would also see they could help in imparting skill-based training.
The administration will ready a list of the villagers and accordingly design the programme. For the young, there will be skill-based training, while for the remaining there would be training in poultry and fisheries and other activities.
The villagers are keen to shift to Adivare village as part of the shifting plan. “The villagers are keen that they are closer to a water body. There were three options — Jhambrewadi, Panchale Budruk and Adivare — and the villagers have opted for the last one. While the administration is speedily addressing the shelter facility, NGO Shaswat and TISS too will be consulted on the rehabilitation process,” said a district official.
