A National Seminar on Best Practices in Management of STUs is scheduled at the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT),on January 30 and 31. This national seminar is sponsored by the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU),New Delhi and is aimed at chief executives and senior officers of state road transport undertakings (STUs) . The demand for transport is likely to increase with economic and population growth in future.
The inadequate growth and accesibility to public transport had led to unprecedented growth in personalised modes of transport resulting in serious problems of road safety,road congestion and environmental pollution, said a press release from CIRT.
The release adds that while the STUs were set up with the objective of providing an efficient,adequate,economical and properly coordinated transport services,these STUs have been incurring losses with a few exceptions resulting in a fall in their quality of service.
In its two-day seminar,some STUs that have achieved a turnaround through innovative management strategies,and will be used as an example to the others have been selected.
