Shiv Sena UBT president Uddhav Thackeray on Friday evening spoke to Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, after the latter demanded 12 seats from the Maha Vikas Aghadi to contest in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly polls.

Sena UBT spokesperson Sanjay Raut said the two leaders had a positive discussion over phone and that the Samajwadi Party will be a part of the MVA.

Akhilesh, who is touring Maharashtra, said he is expecting respectable seats in the seat-sharing arrangments and hopes that the INDIA alliance will not repeat the mistake it did in Haryana.

The SP chief said that his party has already declared candidates for five seats and he is hoping the INDIA alliance partners consider their demand.

“We have asked for 12 seats and have also submitted a tentative list of the candidates and seats where we have a strong presence,” said Yadav while speaking to reporters in Dhule district of north Maharashtra.

With the tussle between Shiv Sena UBT and Congress over seats in Vidarbha, the MVA is struggling to finalise it’s seat-sharing formula. Currently, the SP has two sitting MLAs in the state.

On Thursday Samajwadi Party’s Maharashtra chief Abu Asim Azmi demanded that the MVA should give at least 12 seats to the party and warned of going solo in the polls. Azmi insisted that the Oppositition bloc should not announce any list of candidates or formula without consulting the Samajwadi Party.
