Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday questioned President Droupadi Murmu’s silence on the situation in Manipur and slammed the BJP-led state government’s failure to keep violence at bay. “What happened with the two women in Manipur (who were paraded naked), came to light because of the video (that emerged online, days after the incident). The Chief Minister (of Manipur, N Biren Singh) said many such incidents have occurred (in the past). Shame on you (for saying that),” Uddhav said at a rally by party workers from North India, held at Gadkari Rangayatan in Thane.
On the President’s silence, Uddhav asked: “The President is a woman; the Governor (of Manipur) is a woman. What are they doing? I would like to ask…Madam President, the women of the country are being raped…”
Uddhav also accused the BJP of having become the “most corrupt party” and inducting corrupt leaders into the party. “The BJP is a bullet train of corrupt people…. On August 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will come to Maharashtra (Pune). Who will he share the dais with? With all those against whom he will speak,” he said.
Uddhav also said the people of India want development but the BJP is trying to make people its “slaves”, which is not acceptable. “They (BJP) speak of development, and show people dreams of development. The British were also working on development, but we still fought against them and forced them to leave the country. Why did we do it? Because we don’t want slavery — we want freedom. We want development but don’t want to be slaves,” he said.
