FYJC: Over a lakh get seats of their choice, 2nd list on July 9

1,76,876 students were allotted seats in the first round of admissions.

Over 1.07 lakh students were allotted seats at top five junior colleges of their choice in the first merit list of the online admissions to junior college, which was announced Wednesday. In all, 1,76,876 students were allotted seats in the first round of admissions. The second merit list will be announced on July 9.

A few parents complained that their wards were allotted seats that were not listed by them. According to Saraswat Kulkarni, a resident of Mulund, whose son had applied for a commerce seat in the general category in a college close to home, was shocked when she found that the seat allotted was at a far-off college in Parel.

According to statistics provided by the deputy director’s office, out of 1,76,876 students who had been allotted seats in the first list, 1,07,356 students got admission to colleges as per their preference list. Out of this, 44,806 students got a college of their first choice, 23,158 got a college as per their second choice and 16,211 got colleges as per their third choice.

N B Chavan, deputy director of school education, Mumbai, said that students who failed to get admission to colleges mentioned should wait for the second list.
