Dharavi youth held for killing man who was in relationship with his sister: police

Shah was allegedly in a relationship with the younger sister of the accused, Sahil Dinesh Kumar Sharma, for a year, the police said.

A 22-year-old Dharavi resident was arrested Thursday for allegedly stabbing to death a man, who was in a relationship with his sister.

The incident happened at a garment factory where the victim, Armaan Shah, 23, who resides in Punawala chawl, was working.

Shah was allegedly in a relationship with the younger sister of the accused, Sahil Dinesh Kumar Sharma, for a year, the police said. Sharma had opposed to the relationship and had warned Shah to stop talking to his sister, the police added.

On Wednesday, around 8pm, police said, Sharma went to the factory where Shah was working and asked him to come out to talk.

When the victim came out, Sharma allegedly threw chilli powder, he had brought with him, into Shah’s eyes, took a knife from his pocket and stabbed him, a police officer said.

Hearing Shah screaming, workers at the garment factory gathered and rushed him to the Sion Hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

After the incident, the Dharavi police registered a case of murder and started searching for the accused.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Crime Branch unit 5 also started conducting a parallel investigation and got a tip-off that the accused was planning to leave the city.

A police team led by inspector Ghanshyam Nair searched the accused in Dharavi and arrested Sharma early Thursday.
A crime branch officer said that Sharma was brought to the unit office and after interrogation, it was confirmed that he had committed the crime. He was then handed over to the Dharavi police station for further legal process.
