A female crew member of Jet Airways died after the car she was driving met with an accident in Malad in the wee hours of Friday. Police said three of her friends and the driver of the other car,Sanjay Khedekar,were also injured in the incident and admitted to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital.
According to the Bangur Nagar police,Bhagwati Chhetri (22),a resident of Evershine Nagar,Malad,had gone to a pub in Andheri,along with her friends Yatish Shetty (26),Varun Shetty (25) and Jyoti Chand (24) on Thursday night. Since her male friends were in inebriated condition,they asked Bhagwati to drive the the Honda Accord that belonged to Yatishs father.
Bhagwati lost control over the car and rammed into a Tata Indica car around 2.10 am near Hyper City in Malad. After hitting the Tata Indica car,her car rammed into two autorickshaws that were parked nearby before turning turtle, said Senior Police Inspector Maruti Telang.
Bhagwatis head hit the windshield fracturing her skull and killing her instantly. Her friends are in a state of shock and we have not taken their statements yet. We shall do it as soon after they recover, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone XI) Sanjay Bannerjee.
Police have registered a case of causing death by negligent and rash driving.
According to police,Bhagwati hailed from the North East where her family resides,and she lived alone in Mumbai.
Bhagwatis family has been informed about the incident. They are on their way to Mumbai, said a police officer.
