Hundreds of farmers sat on dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday and demanded the compensation announced to the families of the farmers who had committed suicide from 2000 onwards due to debt. The state government had announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh per family,but a number of family members of the farmers have not yet been given compensation to date. Darshan Singh Koohli,general secretary of Bharti Kisan Union (Ugrahan),said,“We have demanded Rs 5 lakh for each family and jobs as well.”
