To accelerate the pace of development before the next Assembly elections,Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will embark on the second phase of his visit to districts tomorrow. He will go to East Midnapore district and hold meeting with senior officials.
In keeping with their policy of boycotting the chief minister the Trinamool Congress,however,said they will not attend the meeting. Trinamool Sabhadipathi of East Midnapore Zilla Parishad Ranjit Mondal,who was invited to attend the meeting,said: The CM is also responsible for the Nandigram massacre. So I have decided not to attend the meeting.
Bhattacharjee will meet district officials at Kolaghat to review the ongoing schemes,including public distribution system (PDS) and the status of BPL list.
Sources said,the party has already came to the conclusion that many people have gone against the government due to non functioning of PDS and a faulty BPL list. The chief minister is trying to bring out a fresh BPL list so that the discontentment among the poor can be reduced, said an official at the CMs secretariat.
The CM has asked officials of the concerned department to bring out the BPL list by December end.
Following the meeting with officials,Bhattacharjee will address a rally to be organised by the district Left Front at Tamluk.
Even as a section of the Left Front and CPM leaders has a different opinion,the CM is confident that recovery is possible. The party has already made it clear that no early polls will take place. So,the agenda is now to rejuvenate the inactive party ranks and the stale government, said a senior party leader.
Apart from the developmental issues the chief minister will discuss the law and order problems,especially the Maoist menace in states southwestern part.
CM too responsible for Maoist insurgence
At a time when the chief minister is desperately trying to regain lost ground,CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta said Buddhadeb Bhattacharjees government cannot deny its responsibility behind the growing Maoist problem in West Bengal. Dasgupta blamed the state government for not taking appropriate measures for development in the tribal areas. To tackle the problem,the government should take up development works like supply of drinking water,free health care and supply of food grains at a subsidised rate through public distribution system, he added.
