The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Barkha Singh Shukla on Tuesday wrote to Lt-Governor Najeeb Jung saying the commission has been seeking exclusive pick-ups and drops for women working in MNCs, malls and BPOs since the Dhaula Kuan gangrape of 2010 and the December 16 gangrape of 2012, but to no avail.
Shukla’s letter read, “I am extremely sorry to say that nothing concrete has been done till date as a result of which obnoxious incidents of rapes and women’s molestation are on the rise in the capital.”
Shukla, who met the victim of the Uber cab ‘rape’ case, urged Jung to direct all MNCs, BPOs, private companies and malls to engage women security agencies and deploy women guards to protect their women employees.
Shukla has asked Jung to direct these companies to have women drivers to pick up and drop women employees.
Shukla’s letter also said if the women employees are driven home by male drivers, then there should be a thorough background check of the driver and the employee must be accompanied by a woman guard in every taxi.
Shukla has asked Jung to device a system under which poor and economically deprived women of Delhi who are matriculate or eighth pass, are rendered free-of-cost motor training so that they can be employed by the registered taxi services and BPOs to pick up and drop women.
Singh also met representatives of licensed radio taxi services and traffic police to discuss various measures required to ensure safety of women.
