Lajpat Nagar: Girl,mother attacked,youth detained

A woman and her 19-year-old daughter were seriously injured after a man assaulted them with an iron rod at their house in Lajpat Nagar II on Friday morning.

A woman and her 19-year-old daughter were seriously injured after a man assaulted them with an iron rod at their house in Lajpat Nagar II on Friday morning.

“Monica Mangal and her daughter Megha Mangal were alone at their residence around 7.30 am when the man knocked on their door. Megha opened the door and had an argument with the man who then assaulted her and her mother. He then fled from the spot,” said a senior police officer.

Bharat Bhushan Bhutani, the landlord of the Mangals, said: “My wife heard voices from the floor and asked me to check. When I was at their door,I saw a man trying to make his way out of the house. Even though I tried to stop him,the man pushed me and escaped from the spot.”

Bhutani said that as the man escaped,he dropped his car keys and a rod.

Monica’s husband Sanjay Mangal, who runs a transport business, had gone out to drop his daughter Shivangi,a teacher at Green Fields School, and teenage son Ashish.

The Santro car (DL 8C J 4987),registered in the name of one Ankur Kalra who resides in Ashok Vihar, has been confiscated by the police. Additional Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Virender Singh Chahal said,“We have detained Ankur and are questioning him. He is Shivangi’s friend.”

An investigating officer added: “We suspect the assailant was in love with one of Mangal’s daughters. They apparently had an argument over the phone after which the man came to the house.”
