After the latest round of ticket distribution, the youth leaders in the saffron party seemed to have fared worse than their Congress counterparts.
Dhawan will take on Rajiv Babbar, son of BJP MLA O P Babbar, whereas Ragini Nayak will fight against BJP veteran Jagdish Mukhi.
Jag Pravesh Kumar will take on BJPs sitting MLA SCL Gupta, while Tasveer Solanki will fight against BJP sitting MLA Pradyuman Rajput. Vinay Mishra will fight Dharmdev Solanki in Palam.
Except for Nakul Bhardwaj, who is a former DUSU president and an active Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) member, all former DUSU leaders of the ABVP have been neglected by the BJP.
ABVP members such as Gaurav Khari,Nupur Sharma,Jitendra Choudhary and Vikas Dahiya all former DUSU members were demanding tickets but lost out to senior leaders in the party.
Senior BJP leaders believe that the second list of the Congress may prove hazardous for BJP as it may have given the Congress youth the motivation to take on veteran BJP hands in their traditional strongholds.
It is not that the BJP does not have strong youth leaders. But for various reasons, such as it is the last chance for some veteran leaders, the party brass chose to ignore the younger candidates while distributing tickets, a senior BJP leader said.
If the youth phenomena works for the Congress, then we have a tough contest on our hands even in our easiest of seats. We should at least be able to keep the seats we won in the last elections, the leader added.
