A day after the Delhi government released the environment report, which reveals that its efforts for a greener city are proving not enough,Newsline looks at the citys green house gas emissions
Four main sectors in the city emit 15.41 million metric tonnes (MMT) of greenhouse gases every year Delhis carbon emission is one-third of London, which has a total
emission of 44 MMT
The transport sector contributes 46 per cent of the total emissions
CO2 emission from road transport is 7.66 MMT
59% is through use of diesel,30% through petrol and
11% per cent through CNG
Ambient CO2 varies from 484 to 587 parts per milllion (PPM)
Average concentration of CO2 in industrial areas ranged from 512 ppm to 599 ppm
Domestic sector contributes to 34% of the citys total emissions.
Average CO2 emission from the domestic sector is 5.35 MMT
CO2 emission from industries in Delhi is 1.37 MMT,power consumption alone contributes to about 1.21 MMT
Fossil fuel combustion in industrial processes contribute to 0.01 MMT and the use of generators is estimated to contribute 0.15 MMT CNG is the highest contributor of methane at 56% in the road transport sector
