Chennai, Hyderabad Coronavirus News May 31, June 1 Highlights: Tamil Nadu recorded 27,936 positive cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the state tally to 20,96,516. The state recorded 478 deaths on Monday, putting the state toll at 24,232. A total of 31,223 patients were discharged following treatment, taking the total number of recoveries to 17,70,503. As of Monday, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu is 3,01,781. Till date, 12,36,167 males, 8,60,311 females and 38 transgenders have tested positive for the virus in the state.

Former AIADMK minister M Manikandan has been booked for rape based on a complaint by a 36-year-old actor. Besides rape, Chennai’s Adyar All Women Police have also booked Manikandan under IPC Sections entailing criminal intimidation, miscarriage without women’s consent and voluntarily causing hurt. In her complaint, the actor has accused Manikandan of luring her into a relationship on the pretext of marriage.

The Telangana government on Monday extended the summer holidays in all schools and DIET colleges of the state till June 15. According to an order issued by the Directorate of School Education, the state government decided to extend the summer holidays after taking the coronavirus situation into account.
