The incessant rain will continue in Tamil Nadu this week as well, with the weather in Chennai likely to turn inclement by the weekend. On Tuesday, November 18, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at many places over Tamil Nadu, and the Puducherry Karaikal regions with thunderstorm and lightning, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Rain is likely at isolated places over Ariyalur, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Kanniyakumari, Karur, Madurai, Mayiladuthurai, Nagappattinam, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Ranipet, Thanjavur, Thiruvallur, Thiruvarur, Tirunelveli, Tiruvannamalai, Viluppuram districts of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal, Pondicherry areas.
Chennai will receive light rain.
A yellow warning is in place due to the rain. The IMD has warned of slippery roads, waterlogging, and traffic disruptions.
“Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, and Theni districts,” the latest bulletin by the IMD.
Rainy weather is likely to continue across Tamil Nadu throughout the weekend. As per the IMD, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Mayiladuthurai and Cuddalore districts on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, the cloud cover is likely to increase and “heavy rain could occur at isolated places over Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villuppuram, Chengalpattu and Nagapattinam districts and the Puducherry and Karaikal areas”, the IMD said.
On Saturday and Sunday, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Villuppuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, and Kanyakumari, and Tirunelveli districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall along with the Puducherry and Karaikal areas.
Schools have been declared closed from time to time due to the rain. Private, government and aided schools and colleges were closed on Monday. However, there is no official notification as of now of any holiday being declared for Tuesday and the week ahead. Parents are advised to stay in touch with the school authorities for updates.
