Heavy rain and flood-like conditions in the Jammu region have forced the cancellation of several trains and diversion of routes, significantly impacting rail traffic to and from Jammu and Punjab, the Northern Railway said on Wednesday. Incessant rain over the past three to four days has resulted in overflowing rivers, soil erosion, and flooding.

As per the latest bulletin issued by the Northern Railway, 58 trains have been cancelled and 46 others short-terminated. Three trains have been partially cancelled, one was partially restored, and five others were fully restored, while 18 were short-originated and three others were diverted.

“Because of the heavy rain in the Jammu region, unprecedented conditions have developed, and hence, taking care of the safety of passengers, we have cancelled around 45 trains and short-terminated more than 25 others,” Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer, Northern Railway, had said in a video message posted earlier on X.

To assist passengers, the Northern Railway has set up help desks at key stations. The helpline numbers are 9717649915 (New Delhi), 9779233942 (Ferozepur), 9729539980(Ambala), and 7888839911 (Jammu Tawi).
Some train services have been restored or partially resumed. These include Train No. 15656 (Jammu to Kamakhya); Train No. 18102 (Jammu to Sambalpur Junction), short-originated from Amritsar; Train No. 12920 (Jammu to Dr Ambedkar Nagar); Train No. 12238 (Jammu to Varanasi), short-originated from Jalandhar; Train No. 12472 (Jammu to Bandra Terminus); and Train No. 05194 (Jammu to Chhapra).

Some of the cancelled trains are the Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Yog Nagri Rishikesh, Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Amritsar, Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi, Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Bandra Terminus, Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Chennai, Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Kalka, and to and fro trains from Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra.

On Tuesday, rail traffic on the Pathankot Cantt–Kandrori section in Punjab was suspended after heavy soil erosion and flash floods in the Chakki river damaged track alignment. Trains between Jalandhar and Pathankot were cancelled as a result.

Train No. 22478 Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra–New Delhi Vande Bharat Express ran via Pathankot–Gurdaspur–Amritsar–Beas–Jalandhar Cantt instead of its usual Pathankot Cantt–Mukerian–Bhogpur Sirwal route.
Similarly, Train No. 19224 Jammutavi–Sabarmati BG Express was also diverted.
