For the second time in five months, Karnataka’s government employees have received a hike in the dearness allowance, from 38.75 per cent to 42.5 per cent. The hike will be effective from January 1 and will also apply to pensioners.
“For those on the central pay scale, it is up from 46 per cent to 50 per cent. This change requires financial commitment of Rs 1,792.71 cr every year,” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wrote on the X platform on Tuesday.
The decision comes ahead of the Lok Sabha polls expected to be held in April. It can be recalled that under pressure from employee unions, the state government hiked the DA from 35 per cent to 38.75 per cent in October last year.
The DA hike was among the demands of unions who had protested demanding a salary revision. They have also been demanding the implementation of the old pension scheme.
