The police in Bengaluru arrested a 29-year-old woman on Sunday for allegedly killing her employer’s pet dog, which she had been taking care of, inside a lift in an apartment in the city last month.
The woman has been identified as Pushpalatha, a native of Tamil Nadu, who was hired by Rashika K R, an MBA student, to care for her pets.
Pushpalatha had been working in Rashika’s house for the past one and a half months. She received a monthly salary of Rs 23,000, along with accommodation in the same apartment.
According to the Bagalur police, CCTV footage showed Pushpalatha brutally throwing the dog inside the lift.
The police said Pushpalatha took two pets for a walk on November 1. On her way back, she entered the lift and allegedly killed one of the pets, Goosi, by swinging it against the lift’s wall.
They said she returned to the apartment and allegedly told Rashika that the dog had been killed in a road accident. However, Rashika got suspicious because there were inconsistencies in Pushpalatha’s version.
She then checked CCTV cameras with the help of the apartment management, and saw Pushpalatha hurting her pet, the police said.
“During interrogation, Pushpalatha claimed she was frustrated with the pet’s continuous barking. However, the investigations revealed that she had recently stolen valuables from Rashika’s house and was warned against repeating it,” a police officer said.
The police are investigating the matter further as they suspect that Pushpalatha killed the pet as an act of revenge.
