Two families in Ahmedabad clashed on Thursday evening after a 20-year-old youth from one family allegedly harassed a teenage girl – a minor – belonging to the other family twice over the past two months, police said on Friday.

A total of three FIRs have been registered in the case. One each was filed by the families against each other while in the third, the youth was booked under the POCSO Act, police said. No arrest has been made yet, officers said.

In the FIR filed on the basis of a complaint by the girl’s father, it was alleged that two months ago, the youth – their neighbour – had harassed his daughter. At the time, the two families and community leaders had settled the matter internally.

However, on November 13, around 7 pm, the youth again allegedly harassed the girl and the complainant and his family members went to his residence to reprimand him.

When the youth and his family stepped out of the house and was reprimanded, the complainant alleged that they hurled obscenities at them. When the father of the girl asked them to speak decently, the accused allegedly began to thrash them.

At that point, the father of the youth allegedly pulled out a revolver and pointed it at the complainant, even as the other family members began pelting stones at them.

A large crowd gathered and the police were informed, who took both parties to the police station.

In the cross-FIR filed on the basis of a complaint by the youth’s mother, it was alleged that her son had on November 13, returned home and told her that the girl’s uncle threatened to shoot him. Around 10 pm, there was a ruckus outside the house. They saw the girl’s father and uncle along with other family members standing outside their home with weapons, police said citing the FIR.

The FIR alleged that the minor’s family began pelting stones at them and shouted to them to send her son out, threatening to harm him. She also alleged that members of the group had threatened them with revolvers.

The girl’s father, uncle and three other relatives were booked under BNS sections for voluntarily causing hurt, endangering human life, unlawful assembly, rioting, criminal intimidation and obscenity. They were also booked under the Arms Act and Gujarat Police Act.
