The start of Day 3 of Ashes first Test between England and Australia at Gabba had a bad start for the hosts. Shaun Marsh, who battled it out on the pitch on Day 2, departed soon after scoring 8th Test fifty. The batsman was almost suckered in by seamer Stuart Broad, and the left-hand batsman danced to his tunes. Marsh went for a drive and gave away a straight catch to James Anderson at mid-off. He departed on 51 after doing all the hardwork in the centre.
There were several doubts over the selection of wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Paine and the 32-year old did little to dispel them. The right-hand batsman became a victim to James Anderson, who striked with the new ball. Soon, Stuart Broad got Mitchell Starc out as Aussies lost two quick wickets in succession just before lunch.
With Australia still trailing, Pat Cummins went on to stabilise the innings with captain Steve Smith. The duo added 66 runs on the board and took Australia closer to England's 1st innings total.
Australia captain Steve Smith scored his 21st Test century at Gabba and took Australia past England's total. With wickets continue to fall on the other end, the 28-year old remained determined to lead his side to a good total.
Joe Root got the final Aussie wicket of Nathan Lyon as Australia ended their innings at 328. Steve Smith remained the lone batsman on the pitch as he remained not out on 141.
After 1st innings failure, Alastair Cook again failed to capitalise in the second innings as well as he departed on 7.
Josh Hazlewood took his second wicket of the day after he got 1st innings hero James Vince out.
Skipper Joe Root and Marc Stoneman played out the rest of the overs as England ended the day at 33/2, leading Australia by 7 runs.
