
Bihar assembly elections: The Election Commission has confiscated illegal cash, narcotics, liquor, and other inducements worth over Rs 100 crore from Bihar and other states heading for assembly byelections. According to the commission, as of November 3, a total of ₹108.19 crore worth of illicit items have been recovered.
The seizures include Rs 9.62 crore in unaccounted cash, liquor valued at Rs 42.14 crore (9.6 lakh litres), drugs worth Rs 24.61 crore, precious metals estimated at Rs 5.8 crore, and other freebies exceeding Rs 26 crore.
Bihar will go to polls in two phases on November 6 and 11. Byelections for eight assembly constituencies across Jammu & Kashmir, Odisha, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Punjab, Telangana, and Rajasthan are also set for November 11.
The counting of votes for both the assembly elections and bypolls will take place on November 14.
To ensure prompt action on election-related complaints, the poll panel has deployed 824 flying squads across Bihar, tasked with addressing cases reported on the C-VIGIL app within 100 minutes.
The Election Commission further stated that all enforcement agencies have been instructed to intensify surveillance and curb the flow of cash, liquor, drugs, and other inducements during the election period.
