Bihar Election 2025 LIVE Updates: Muslim CM for Bihar? Why not, asks Owaisi

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday kicked off the election campaign of his party for the Bihar assembly elections, questioning why the eastern state cannot have a Muslim CM despite the minority community comprising 17 per cent of the state's population.

The Hyderabad MP lambasted the ruling NDA as well as the opposition INDIA bloc for allegedly "giving a raw deal" to the Muslim community.

Owaisi, whose party is contesting 32 assembly seats in the poll-bound state, launched his election campaign from Gopalganj, where he addressed a rally at a village 20 km away from the district headquarters.

"Why cannot a Muslim, who represents 17 per cent of the state's population, become the chief minister? After all, they seem to have no problem with promising the deputy CM's post to a person who represents only three per cent of the

population," he added.

The allusion was to the INDIA bloc, which has named RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as its chief ministerial candidate, promising the deputy CM's post to Mukesh Sahni, a Nishad leader who heads Vikassheel Insan Party.

Bihar Election 2025 LIVE Updates: Waqf Act won't be implemented if INDIA bloc wins Bihar polls, says manifesto

The INDIA bloc, which released its manifesto for the Bihar assembly elections on Tuesday, has pledged to block the implementation of the Waqf (Amendment) Act in the state and make the management of Waqf property more transparent and welfare-oriented.

The opposition bloc also promised that the management of Buddhist temples in Bodh Gaya would be handed over to members of the Buddhist community.

"The constitutional rights of all minority communities will be protected. The Waqf (amendment) Act will be halted...and Waqf property management will be made transparent, welfare-oriented, and useful," the INDIA bloc's manifesto stated.

INDIA bloc's chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav had recently said the Waqf (Amendment) Act would be "thrown into the dustbin" if the opposition alliance came to power in Bihar.

The Waqf (Amendment) Act was passed by Parliament in April. The ruling BJP-led NDA has described the legislation as a move toward transparency and empowerment for backward Muslims and women, while opposition parties have alleged it infringes upon the rights of the Muslim community.

Bihar Election 2025 LIVE Updates: RJD leader Tejaswai Yadav on Tuesday asserted that the INDIA bloc's manifesto will be a vision document to make Bihar the number one state in the country.

Slamming the NDA for not declaring its chief ministerial candidate, Yadav said, “We announced our CM face ahead of the polls... We are releasing our manifesto today. What about the NDA parties? Bihar Election 2025 LIVE Updates: Here's what Tejashwi Yadav said on 10 lakh job promise

RJD leader and Mahagathbandhan’s chief ministerial face Tejshawi Yadav speaks to The Indian Express on his pre-poll promises, friendly fights in the Opposition camp and the politics of doles, among other issues.

Your 10 lakh jobs promise is seen to have changed the narrative in your favour in the 2020 polls. Do you sense the same happening with your promise of one government job for each family, though your rivals have said it is not financially viable?

You need to create jobs if you want a healthy economy. Employment links livelihoods with health, education and overall development. We see job creation as an investment and not as a cost. We can create many employment opportunities in the social sector, especially health and education, and while these would generate large-scale employment, they will also improve and strengthen our schools, healthcare centres, and water and electricity supply. It will have a multiplier effect.

We have been working with experts on the cost aspect and on how to implement it. We want to change the mainstream narrative that seeks to squeeze employment and sees workers as expenses. We look at job creation as an economic engine.
