The sky turned red as the Iron Dome system of Israel intercepted a barrage of missiles on Sunday morning.

Israel and the Hezbollah, the Iran-backed armed group in Lebanon, engaged in retaliatory attacks on Sunday, firing a barrage of missiles and drones. While the Israeli military launched airstrikes at targets in southern Lebanon the Hezbollah fired hundreds of rockets at Israel, in what appeared to be one of its largest rocket barrages yet.

A video showing Israel’s air defense system, also known as the ‘Iron Dome,’ intercepting drones launched from Lebanon, was posted by the official X account of the State of Israel.

“Thank God for the Iron Dome,” the post on X said.

Since this morning, Israel’s Iron Dome aerial defence system has intercepted over 200 rockets fired from Lebanon by Hezbollah.

Hezbollah claimed it had launched more than 320 Katyusha rockets toward Israel, hitting 11 military targets to retaliate for Israel’s assassination of a Fouad Shukur, a top commander with the group, in a strike in Beirut late last month.

The barrage has completed “the first phase” of their response, but warned that the full retaliation would take “some time,” the terror group stated.

Commenting on the strikes, Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said Israel would do whatever necessary to defend itself.

“We have conducted precise strikes in Lebanon in order to thwart an imminent threat against the citizens of Israel. We are closely following developments in Beirut, and we are determined to use all the means at our disposal in order to defend our citizens,” Gallant said in a statement.

The escalation has raised concerns about a broader regional conflict that could potentially involve the United States and Iran. The White House reported that President Joe Biden is closely monitoring the situation.
