Former President Donald Trump is set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday morning at Trump Tower in New York. This follows a meeting scheduled with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday night. The meetings coincide with the visit of both leaders to the US for the United Nations General Assembly.

Trump made the announcement during a Thursday press conference, confirming the Friday morning meeting with Zelenskyy, despite earlier uncertainty about whether such a meeting would take place.

Trump’s relationship with Zelenskyy has been strained, particularly over Trump’s criticism of US funding to Ukraine amid the ongoing war with Russia. Zelenskyy, in turn, has questioned Trump’s approach to ending the conflict, leading to tension between the two.

Trump has often said that Russia would not have invaded Ukraine if he had been president, and he has been critical of continued US support for Zelenskyy’s government. Trump remarked, “We continue to give billions of dollars to a man who refuses to make a deal,” referring to Zelenskyy’s handling of the war.

In addition to the Zelenskyy meeting, Trump met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) earlier in the week, though details about that meeting were not publicly disclosed.

Zelenskyy, who has been in Washington for meetings with US officials, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, is expected to discuss his “victory plan” for Ukraine during these meetings. His visit comes amid rising tensions over his criticism of Republican leaders and their handling of the Ukraine conflict.

The meetings with Starmer, Zelenskyy, and other global leaders occur just weeks before the US presidential election on November 5.
